This November, you’ll have the opportunity to vote on Proposition 4, an initiative that allocates a $10 billion bond package in California for safe drinking water, wildfire prevention, and protecting communities and natural lands from climate risks.
We encourage you to join us in protecting our deserts, preventing wildfires, and supporting climate-resilient communities by voting YES on Proposition 4.
You will see this bond on the November 2024 ballot as “Proposition 4, the Safe Drinking Water, Wildfire Prevention, Drought Preparedness, and Clean Air Bond Act of 2024.” The Living Desert encourages all voters to thoroughly research Proposition 4 before casting their ballots.
California is currently facing significant environmental challenges, and Prop 4 is key to shifting from disaster response to proactive disaster prevention. A study found that for every dollar invested to reduce our risk from disasters before they occur, we save roughly seven dollars in emergency response and clean-up.
California zoos and aquariums accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums are eligible for $45 million in grants to promote climate, biodiversity, and species recovery. The Living Desert is committed to protecting deserts and the animals and plants that call them home. Voting Yes on Prop 4 will help The Living Desert make an even bigger impact on desert conservation within the Coachella Valley and surrounding areas. Our deserts make California special, and we have a responsibility to protect them for our children and future generations.
Prop 4 will benefit communities statewide, focusing on the following major funding areas:
- Safe drinking water, drought, flood, and water resilience: $3.8 billion
- Biodiversity protection and nature-based climate solutions: $1.2 billion
- Park creation and access to the outdoors: $700 million
